Former North Central basketball star concludes battle against multinational vehicle manufacturer

Mariah Alexander, an aspiring student at North Central and one of Spokesman Review’s “impact freshman” in high school basketball, was severely injured in her junior year of high school. She was sixteen years old when her leg was crushed under a Kubota RTV 900 utility-recreational vehicle, through no fault of her own. The injury sidelined Mariah as she underwent painful surgeries, physical therapy, and eventually the difficult decision to amputate her right leg.
Some questioned if Mariah made the right decision. Others told her she would never play basketball again. But in her senior year, there she was coming off the bench for North Central High on the prosthetic leg she was fitted with just two weeks before the season. She began going to other schools in the region to tell her story – the message being to reach inside yourself to find strength through adversity, just like she did, because the outcome can be even better than expected.
After her four year battle for justice against a major multinational corporation, Mariah stood face-to-face with the head legal counsel of Kubota Inc, and admonished them to prevent these preventable injuries from happening to anyone else. Sweetser Law Office congratulates Mariah on her successful settlement, and would like to thank Mariah once again for entrusting Sweetser Law Office to represent her in this case. Today, Mariah Alexander is attending college to earn her baccalaureate degree, and recently celebrated her twenty-first birthday. She is training for the wheel-chair basketball Olympics.
